Spiderwood is a beloved choice among aquascaping enthusiasts for its unique, twisted branches and natural beauty. But let's face it: nothing’s more frustrating than placing a perfect branchy centerpiece only to watch it pop up like a runaway pool noodle. Our Spiderwood on Slate comes pre‑mounted to a flat slate base, so there is no need for balancing rocks or using unsightly suction cups. Just drop it in, bury the slate, and the substrate locks it solid so your wood stays exactly where you want it. It’s the easiest way to root your design.

Product Features and Benefits

  • Spiderwood is notoriously buoyant, but the integrated slate base acts as a built-in anchor.
  • Known for its "wild" and twisting limbs, it offers the perfect framework for attaching Moss, Anubias, or Bucephalandra, creating a lush forest look.
  • The slate base is thin enough to be easily concealed by gravel or soil, giving the appearance that the wood is growing naturally out of your aquarium hardscape.

Preparation and Care
Even with a slate base, Spiderwood requires a little attention to ensure it looks its best in your aquarium with wood.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The "Biofilm" Phase: It is completely normal for a harmless, white fuzzy biofilm to appear on the branches during the first few weeks. Your shrimp and snails will consider this a delicacy and clear it up in no time.
  3. Tannin Management: Spiderwood is a low-tannin wood, but it may still add a slight amber tint to the water. This is a natural occurrence, and the effects will subside over time. If you prefer the crystal-clear look, boil the wood for 1–2 hours or soak it in a separate container until the water runs clear. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.
